| Welcome to the Certified Loan Officer (CLO) Specialist Designation. The curriculum for this designation is progressive and comprised of three levels. The first two levels the achievement certificate and professional certificate lay a foundation for the final level, the CLO itself. | The new Certified Loan Officer (CLO) Specialist Designation program creates a recognizable and meaningful seal of quality for residential loan officers. This program, offered by CampusMBA, the education division of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), shows the industry and consumers alike that the holder is a qualified, proven, high-quality professional. The CLO allows the industry and its professionals to take positive action. It shows that the industry is committed to ongoing improvement, knowledge and responsibility.
Originators and brokers can satisfy state continuing education requirements while earning this designation. More than half the required courses also fulfill licensing requirements in many states. State abbreviations listed next to each course in the following section of this brochure indicate that the course has been approved as a continuing education course in that state. All courses for the CLO Designation are web-based. Courses can be accessed from anywhere, at anytime. Once enrolled in a course a student has 12 months to complete it.

- A minimum one year of industry experience is recommended.
Step 1: Enroll in the Achievement Certificate
Option 1: Regular Enrollment Enroll in the program and exam only (courses not included). 
Option 2: Complete Package Enrollment Enroll in the program, courses and exam for a special price.

Step 2: Complete Required Level I Curriculum
Complete the following five web-based courses. If you chose option 1 above, you will need to enroll in each of the courses separately.
- Ethics in Mortgage Lending (IA)
- Fair Lending Essentials (GA, IL, IA, KS, KY, MT, NY)
- Fraud Detection and Deterrence
(IL, NY)
- Mortgage Banking Primer (AL, IL, ID, KS, KY, MN, MI, NY, SC)
- Origination Basics
(GA, KS)
Please note: You don’t need to enroll in the program to take any of the courses listed above.
Step 3: Pass the Level I Exam
Pass the level I comprehensive exam. Passing the test earns the Loan Officer Achievement Certificate.
Please note: You must be enrolled into the program to take the level I exam and earn a certificate. The exam is included with all enrollment options.
About this achievement: The Achievement Certificate represents 50+ hours of concentrated loan officer education. Many leading companies have pursued this certification for their loan originator personnel.
Next steps: While many individuals and companies choose to conclude their education with this achievement certificate, many continue on to complete Level II, the Certified Loan Officer Professional Certificate.

Step 3: Pass the Level III Test
Pass the CLO Level III test and become a Certified Loan Officer. 
About this achievement: Many leading companies have pursued this designation for many of their origination personnel. It enhances personal marketability and career growth and increases loan production volume through consumer confidence building. Step 4: Complete continuing education.
A Certified Loan Officer must complete five points of continuing education every two years. Continuing education can be earned by successfully completing one of the applicable CampusMBA courses. Prior to the end of the two-year period, designees must complete the CLO Continuing Education Reporting Form and submit it with a $100 re-accreditation fee.
The Next Step If you have been in the business five or more years, consider becoming a Commercial or Residential Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) Designee.
