In this issue of The Industry Campus, John Golden, Vice President of Education at the Mortgage Bankers Association, announces two innovations at CampusMBA: Products by Focus Area and Customized eTicket Libraries.

In addition, we highlight a new classroom-based program entitled Information Assurance - 5 Steps to Security. You can attend a special preview of this program at MBA's National Technology in Mortgage Banking Conference in Tampa, Florida. We also list other CampusMBA events at the Conference, along with information on how attendees can enter to win a Microsoft Zune media player.

Also in this issue, we catch up with Bradford Armstrong, CMB, in the CMB Profile - a section we hope to feature regularly. Finally, we proudly list our February certificate and designation graduates.

Is Your Company at Risk for a Security Breach?

Did you know that it costs a company an average of $4.8 million each time a security breach occurs?* Could your company be at risk?

CampusMBA has developed a new course that addresses information security solutions across the mortgage industry in a comprehensive and consistent manner. Information Assurance - 5 Steps to Security is a one-day, classroom-based course designed to:

  • Provide you with an overview of legislative, audit, and security standard requirements applicable to the mortgage industry.
  • Raise awareness that everyone is responsible for their company’s security assurance or security breach.
  • Recognize the benefit of a harmonized information assurance (IA) approach that promotes consistent security solutions and secure interoperability throughout the mortgage industry.
  • Familiarize students with a Five-Step Information Assurance (IA) Model that can be utilized within your institution.
  • Familiarize students with a set of twelve organizational actions your institution can take in implementing the Five-Step IA Model.
"Legislation and regulations are driving information assurance in the industry. The research and analysis identifies common threads and best practices that can be used to create a comprehensive security program for the mortgage industry," said Robert (RJ) Schlecht, instructor at the Information Assurance course. RJ is a Project Manager at the Mortgage Bankers Association where his primary responsibility is the Secure Identity Services Accreditation Corporation (SISAC).

All course registrants will receive a copy of MBA's A Five-Step Information Assurance (IA) Model for Mortgage Industry Institutions, a research and analysis paper commissioned by the MBA Board of Directors Technology Steering Committee. Don't miss this exciting new course. Register now.

CMB Profile

Bradford Armstrong, CMB
President
Armstrong Mortgage Company
Columbus, OH

Bradford, a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, has been involved in real estate finance for over 20 years. He earned his Commercial CMB designation in 2005.

Armstrong Mortgage Company is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, where Bradford serves on the Multifamily Housing Committee, Legislative Committee. He is also a member of the Trustee of the Columbus Association Associate Council, the Columbus Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Ohio Mortgage Bankers Association.

You earned the CMB designation two years ago; how has it impacted your career?

Being a CMB has given me a competitive edge. I have a broader understanding of the complexities of the commercial mortgage markets and have had the opportunity to foster new relationships with other CMBs across the country.

What advice do you have for future CMB designees?

Contact a current CMB to get first-hand knowledge of the benefits and the requirements of the designation.

The requirements of obtaining the CMB designation are such that it can be accomplished on your own timeframe. However, I recommend spending a set amount of time, once a week, to study the materials and to prepare yourself for the exam.

Once the designation has been obtained, the challenge becomes how to best serve the MBA in the many areas in which we can participate.
