About this Course

Introduction to Commercial Real Estate Finance is a two-day course, which provides students with an overview of commercial real estate finance. Students learn the various types of commercial/multifamily properties, as well as the basic methods by which commercial real estate is underwritten and appraised. Students are also introduced to various aspects of the commercial loan process, including key players, closing, servicing and securitization, as well as the role of ethics in commercial real estate finance. Additionally, students participate in a field trip to commercial real estate properties and practice reviewing a loan proposal from the prospective of both a mortgage banker and a lender.

Learning Objectives

At the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Define commercial real estate lending
  • Identify the various property types involved in commercial real estate lending
  • Describe commercial real estate underwriting and its related activities
  • Describe the appraisal process for commercial properties
  • Describe the players involved in commercial real estate lending
  • Discuss the role of ethics in commercial real estate mortgage banking
  • Demonstrate the processes of proposing and creating a commercial real estate loan
  • Summarize closing, customer service and quality control in commercial real estate lending
  • Summarize servicing and portfolio/securitization in commercial real estate lending

This workshop is designed for those new to commercial real estate finance or those from the residential side of the industry looking to learn more about commercial real estate finance.
