Using Credit Wisely

 

Credit Report Demonstration

It's important that you look at your credit report from the three main reporting companies to make sure each is correct. Your credit report may vary from one company to another. Each copy of your credit report costs about $12.00 and may be free in certain cases.

  2. View the demonstration and notice each section of the credit report shown.

  3. Click the Close Window link to return to the course.

Internet Field Trip –Credit Reporting Companies

Now take an online field trip to visit one or more of the Credit Reporting Company Web sites. You can order a credit report if you wish to see your credit history. Ordering your own report will not lower your credit score.

Caution: Some of these companies offer access to a free credit report and score. Be sure to read the terms and conditions or legal terms before ordering one of the free reports. These terms often appear via a learn more link or a link at the bottom of the page.

Read all the directions before you begin.

  2. Review the information and costs for the different types of reports.

  3. Follow the prompts provided if you wish to order from the Web site. Note: You will need to provide a credit card and your email address to complete the request.

  4. If you decide to order your report, check that the information is correct when you receive it.

  5. Click the Close Window link to return to the course.

Once you understand how to order and read your credit report, you can monitor it periodically for accuracy. The next sections will explore how to repair and protect your credit.
